“글로벌 세상 공통 가치, 자유”우크라이나인 주도 반전 집회
[천지일보=정승자 기자] 러시아와 우크라이나 간 전쟁이 장기화하는 가운데 24일 서울 중구 정동분수대 앞에서 국내에 거주하는 우크라이나인들이 전쟁 중단 촉구 집회를 열고 평화를 염원한다는 목소리를 높였다.
이날 집회에 참가한 우크라이나인들은 전쟁 종식과 평화를 염원하는 마음으로 함께 노래를 부르고 트럼펫을 연주하기도 했다. 또한 이들은 ‘우리는 평화를 원한다’ ‘민간인 살상을 중단하라’ ‘대한민국 감사합니다’ 등의 구호를 외치며 덕수궁길 인근을 돌아 정동분수대 앞까지 행진했다.
이번 집회 간사인 우크라이나인 크리스티나(여)는 천지일보와의 인터뷰에서 “전쟁은 너무 끔찍하다고 생각한다. 전쟁은 우리에게 매우 고통스럽다”며 “우리는 전쟁이 일어난 상황을 그저 앉아서 지켜볼 수만은 없었고 뭔가를 해야만 한다고 느꼈기 때문에 이렇게 집회를 열었다”고 말했다.
조지아인 유학생 살롬(26, 여)은 “개인적으로 러시아가 전쟁을 멈춰야만 한다고 생각한다”며 “우크라이나는 단지 그들의 자유만을 위해서가 아니라 민주주의 세계를 위해 싸우는 것”이라고 강조했다. 이어 “우크라이나는 지지를 받아야 한다. 모든 희생자들은 그들의 삶을 희생했다. 우크라이나는 세계로부터의 지원을 받을 자격이 있다”고 말했다.
국내 기업에서 근무하는 우크라이나인 이반(52, 남)은 “전쟁이 일어난 후로 3년간 우크라이나에 갈 수 없었다. 동생의 집은 전쟁으로 완전히 파괴됐다”며 “빨리 승리가 이뤄지길 바란다”고 말했다. 이어 “오늘날 우리는 글로벌 세상에서 살아간다. 우리에게는 공통의 가치가 있다. 그 가치는 자유, 민주주의, 발언의 자유, 인도주의 가치다. 우크라이나는 이러한 가치를 위해 싸우는 중”이라고 강조했다.
이반은 이어 “우리는 독립적으로 살기를 원한다”며 “우리는 러시아와 같은 다른 국가에 의존하고 싶지 않다”고 말했다.
국내 무역회사에 근무하는 우크라이나인 로만 야마노프는 “가족이 살던 집은 전쟁으로 파괴됐다. 아주 큰 집이었는데 전쟁 때문에 이제는 그곳에서 살 수 없게 됐다”며 “전쟁이 일어난 후로 우크라이나에 몇 년간 갈 수 없었고 부모님을 만나지 못했다”고 말했다. 이어 “전쟁에 반대하는 목소리를 내기 위해 집회에 참가했다”며 “승리할 때까지 계속 집회를 할 것”이라고 했다.
그는 “러시아인 친구들도 전쟁으로 인해 매우 낙담했다. 그들의 국가는 전쟁을 일으켰지만 정작 국민은 전쟁을 원하지 않았다”고 강조했다.
로만의 가족은 2014년 러시아가 크림반도를 공격했을 당시 크림반도에 있었다.
당시 서울에서 반전 집회가 열렸는데, 이때 집회에 참가했던 재한 우크라이나인들은 이번에도 모여서 집회에 참가했다.
올해 러시아가 우크라이나를 침공한 후 재한 우크라이나인들은 러시아 대사관이 위치한 정동에 모였다. 이들의 집회는 한국에서 우크라이나인들이 주도하는 유일한 반전 집회다.

[Cheonji Daily News=Jeong Seung-ja] Ukrainians living in South Korea had a rally on Sunday to insist on stopping war and raised their voices of hope for peace in front of Jeong-dong Fountain in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The Ukrainians participated in the rally sang together with the heart of hoping for peace and cessation of war and played the trumpet.
“We want peace. Stop killing people. Thank you, Korea,” they said.
They rallied around Deoksugung-gil and Jeong-dong Fountain.
“I think war is terrible. War is too painful to us,” said Christina, the operator of the rally. “We couldn’t just sit and watch the war. We felt that we must have done something. That’s why we held the rally.”
Salom, who participated in the rally as a Georgian, said that “I personally think that Russia must stop the war.”
“Ukrainians are not just fighting for their freedom, but for democracy world. Ukraine must receive support. All victims sacrificed their lives. Ukraine deserves to receive the world’s support,” she added.
Ivan, a Ukrainian at the rally, explained how the war changed his life.
“I couldn’t visit Ukraine for 3 years since the war started. My brother’s house was destroyed completely because of the war. I hope the victory be accomplished soon,” said Ivan. “We’re living in the global world today. We have common values. The values are freedom, democracy, freedom of speech, and humanitarianism. Ukraine is fighting for these values. We want to live independently. We don’t want to depend on another country like Russia.”
Ukrainians couldn’t go to their hometown for several years after the war occurred in the country. “I couldn’t visit Ukraine for several years and couldn’t meet my parents,” said Roman Yamanov, a Ukrainian peace activist. “My home was destroyed because of war. It was a huge house and my family lived there but we couldn’t live there anymore due to the war. We will continue the rally until we win.”
“My Russian friends were frustrated because of the war. Their country started the war but the citizens didn’t want the war,” he added.
Roman’s family was in the Crimean Peninsula when Russia attacked there in 2014. There was a rally against the war in South Korea at that time, and the Ukrainians who participated in the rally gathered and came to the rally today as well.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine this year, Ukrainians living in South Korea gathered at Jeong-dong where the Embassy of Russia is located. Their rally is the only one that Ukrainians lead for peace and against the war in South Korea.
