HWPL Urges for Support of the Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula in Europe

Visits Five Countries: Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Romania

People in Europe Participate in Signing “Letters of Support for the Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula”

Signed an MOU with government institutions and civil organizations

During this World Peace Tour, we met and talked with people that have the same objective—to achieve world peace and leave it as a legacy to the future generations. They spoke as if Korea holds the key to opening the doors of peace. Also, they spoke with one voice that building peace in the Korean Peninsula would bring world peace.”

Mr. Man Hee Lee, the Chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), expressed his thoughts on visiting five European countries—Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Romania—at a press conference upon returning from the 27th World Peace Tour, held in Incheon International Airport on 23 May 2018.

During this World Peace Tour, Chairman Lee was accompanied by the International Women’s Peace Group (Hyun Sook Yoon, Director of the IWPG Headquarters) and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG). In front of HWPL’s Peace Delegation that attended the press conference there was a display of various plaques, gifts, peace declarations and letters of support for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula received during their visit to Europe.

When asked his opinion about their visit to Europe, Chairman Lee said, “Every person we met wanted peace. It felt like peace had already been completed. Students, youth members, and even heads of state gave their support to the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.”

Furthermore he said, "European leaders came up to us and requested a signing of an MOU on peace initiatives. They were like people sent to us for building a world of peace."

Chairman Lee introduced a wave of support for HWPL’s peace movement from people in European countries by saying, “Many former heads of state spoke with one voice to the current heads of state that the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) should be developed into a legally binding instrument.”

On May 19, the “High-Level Meeting of Former Political Leaders in Europe” was held by HWPL and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization at the Palace of the Parliament in Romania to gather support for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula. The former president of Romania, Hon. Emil Constantinescu said, “Chairman Man Hee Lee, a veteran of the Korean War, has traveled the world 26 times to achieve peace in the world,” urging for the attendees’ participation in the peace movement.

He also said, “Chairman Lee proclaimed the DPCW, and his dream raised our hopes that it is possible to achieve peace. I’m looking forward to seeing Korea transform into a republic of peace. Also, I hope Korea becomes a model of world peace. I truly support the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.”

At the event “The Way to Unity of Society and Peace in the World” held in Kiev, Ukraine on May 10, HWPL and Ukraine organizations including the International Spiritual and Moral Civilization Movement and the People's Assembly of Ukraine signed an MOA to expand further peace activities based on the principles of the DPCW for peacebuilding.

On May 20, the city of Tîrgu Mureșn Romania and HWPL signed an MOU for “Peace and Culture City Project,” which promotes bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the field of education and culture. Tg. Mureșis known as a city with multicultural and historical backgrounds.

During this World Peace Tour, various events were held to promise to work for the realization of peace. On May 15, the event “Positive Change for Tomorrow” was held at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. This event was organized to recall the history of peaceful exchanges between Korea and Sweden, which includes the Swedish Red Cross Field Hospital dispatched during the Korean War in the 1950s, and to urge the youths of the two countries to cooperate for the realization of world peace.

On May 16, the “Peace and Reconciliation Conference” was held in Oslo, Norway on the theme of international partnership for global peace and human rights. At the conference, the human rights issues regarding North Korean defectors were introduced. Also, they discussed the importance of launching a peace network with European youth for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.

The director of the IWPG Headquarters in Korea, Ms. Hyun Sook Yoon said, “During this World Peace Tour, we visited only five countries,but heads of organization from other countries came to see Chairman Lee and introduced what they have done for peace. Also, they had prepared a project proposal on the peace activities that they plan to do in the future.”

Furthermore she explained, “All of the people knew about HWPL in every place we went. They welcomed and treated Chairman Lee as a state guest. The seeds of peace that Chairman Lee sowed while traveling the world 27 times have grown incredibly.”
