◆Putting an End to the 40-Year Conflict in Mindanao

In May of last year, a monument for world peace was erected to honor the achievements of Mr. Lee in the province of Maguindanao, Mindanao of the Philippines. This was Asia's largest region of bloodshed and conflict. The event celebrated the peace agreement that took place on January 24, 2014. With the mediation of Mr. Lee, the raising of arms by the Catholic and Islamic groups in Mindanao finally ceased after 40 years.

The locals expressed fervent gratitude for the Korean peace activist who traveled long distances, while putting his life on the line to give them the gift of peace. When the civilian Mindanao Peace Agreement was achieved by Mr. Man Hee Lee in 2014, it was broadcasted and the whole world was amazed to see. It was an unbelievable sight.

The day when the peace monument was erected, the province of Maguindanao declared January 24 as "HWPL Day." This was the date the peace agreement was made the previous year.

In January 2016, Chairman Lee visited 4 provinces of the Philippines including Mindanao as his 24th World Peace Tour. On January 24th, the second anniversary of the peace agreement, the Monument to the Declaration of World Peace was erected in the MILF base camp in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao Province. About the enthusiastic response from the locals and the changes of Mindanao, Chairwoman Kim of IWPG emphasized that “Mindanao is the bridgehead of world peace.”

◆WARP Summit, The Unprecedented Peace Conference

September 17, 2014, at the main arena of Jamsil Olympic Stadium, where the Seoul Olympics was held, leaders from 170 countries and 200,000 HWPL members participated in the "World Alliance of Religions' Peace Summit (WARP)." More than 80 percent of global wars are caused by religion and more than 80 percent of humanity is religious. Mr. Lee presented the vision, "If people of religion become one for peace, then world peace can become a reality."

He also asked politicians and international law experts of the entire world to participate in proposing the Implementation on the International Convention of the Cessation of War and the Achievement of World Peace. The very next day, history was made. All participants who gathered from the 170 countries signed the "Peace Agreement." "The 2014 World Alliance of Religions' Peace Summit" was deemed "the most groundbreaking and unprecedented peace conference." This accomplishment is due to the gathering of the greatest number of politicians and religious people who pledging to cooperate for peace since the beginning of history.

◆Achievement of World Peace Becoming a Reality

In order to propel the international convention on the cessation of war, HWPL has launched the "HWPL International Law Peace Committee" comprising of scholars specializing in international law. These are those who commemorated the "1st Annual Commemoration of the September World Alliance of Religions’ Peace Summit" last year and prepared the first draft of the international convention on the cessation of war. In November of last year, during Mr. Lee's 21st World Peace Tour, the HWPL International Law Peace Committee members had an in-depth discussion on the implementation of an international convention on the cessation of war. This included "The legislation on the banning of arms sales" in London, England.

On the day of the conference Mr. Lee emphasized, "The perfect international law should be made for the cessation of war, including the prohibition of acts of aggression, the prohibition of the sales of arms, the prohibition of military training, and etc." The committee members who were there had criticisms stating, "Existing international law has numerous problems." The reason is, "People who created international law did not have complete cessation of war in mind like Mr. Lee does."

International Law Peace Committee members who participated in the London conference were astounded at the fact that conservative international law scholars had made significant progress in such a short span of time. Currently, the HWPL International Law Peace Committee is in the final stages of the first draft of the implementation of the International Convention on the Cessation of War. Before introducing it to the UN, they will present the Declaration of the International Convention on the Cessation of War in March.
